Ray Quilt (free pattern from CF!)

Last month, one of my favorite fabric & quilt designers, Carolyn Friedlander, published a free pattern and announced a Ray Quilt along.  I enjoyed looking at what she had made and while I was considering her choices, I started thinking about additional color and pattern placements. Before I knew it, I had printed a copy of her pattern (it’s free!) and was piling up my fabric choices!

The Ray Quilt is basically ONE HUGE log cabin block.  Those “logs” are 4.5” wide! The jumping-off point for my quilt is two colorways of a dinosaur print from designer Lizzy House.

My quilt is approximately 50″ x 54″ which is neither of the sizes in Carolyn’s excellent free pattern, but is the perfect size for my toddler and also where I ran out of the red dinosaurs fabric!

I chose to quilt mine in a grid of machine stitches.

I love how it all turned out and encourage you to try Carolyn’s Ray Quilt pattern, too!
