A Photo Of A Quilt Top Using A Rainbow Of Colors And A Joyful Cartoon Fabric

The Cute Quilt

A year or so ago I bought a yard of Heidi Kenney’s Friendly Faces fabric. This adorable fabric has lots of color and is made of squares that are approximately 3″. The fabric has a variety of fun figures with faces. Some are people, some are everyday objects. I love this fabric, it makes me very happy.

After using it to make a quilt last year (which apparently I never shared here, I will have to remedy that!) I had a few favorite squares in my scraps. Coming across them recently, I realized I just couldn’t let them linger any longer! I pulled out my favorites and dug through my solids to see if I had some that matched (or nearly matched.)

Finding adequate fabric, I then doodled out a variation on a 9-patch that would work for the 3″ squares. I put it all together in a cute, rainbow explosion.

Originally, I hadn’t thought this work to be the sort of thing that lends itself well to a shareable pattern, because it’s so specific to the fabric I used (and that fabric Isn’t widely available anymore). However, as I put it together, I became curious about using the pattern with other fabrics, and made a coloring page to play with. Playing with the page quickly showed me how versatile this pattern is. I put together my measurements and pressing notes for my patrons. If you’re interested, join me on Patreon. It’s a low monthly fee and you get access to current and past notes!
