Hot and Cold Blanket: fleece + cotton = comfort!

I made a quick and easy blanket for Simon’s first birthday! It pairs fleece with quilting cotton and is totally adorable and useful.

Simon in his car seat with his birthday blanket.

This blanket is called a “Hot and Cold Blanket” because the blanket is “hot” with the fleece against you, and “cold” with the cotton. I made Simon’s blanket 36″ square–perfect for using in his carseat.

About the fabrics: the fleece is a very special fabric that I made based on an image Simon’s cousin Maya drew when she was 3 years old.  At the time, she said it was “me, in jail.”

I used photoshop to edit Maya’s image a little bit (mostly taking out the lined paper) and then printed it with Spoonflower

That piece of fabric has been waiting for the right project and last month at a meeting of the Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild, Sheryl showed the guild blankets she made with quilting cotton on one side and fleece on the other.  Sheryl called them “Hot and Cold Blankets” because the blanket is “hot” with the fleece against you, and “cold” with the cotton.  You can see Sheryl’s tutorial for the blankets on her tumblr.  ( She spends a decent part of that post showing how she embroiders the fleece, which I didn’t do.)

I paired the fleece a Lizzy House print from a few years ago. I love the result!

It’s quick and easy to make these blankets, just check out Sheryl’s tutorial for the blankets on her tumblr!

I made a few more of these blankets: you can read about them here: https://rossiecrafts.com/2019/01/more-hot-cold-blankets.html
