A favorite tool: The Quilter’s Clapper

A dozen years ago, I used to follow a blogger who proclaimed the “March of the Tools!” During the month of March we would share some of our favorite gadgets. When the phrase “March of the Tools” crossed my mind this week, I said to myself, I should share my quilter’s clapper! And so here I am, to tell you about one of my favorite gadgets!

A clapper is a tool that helps you get great results when pressing your seams. Once you press your seams, you set the clapper on them. The clapper holds them flat as they cool off, giving you the flattest seams of your life!

I made a video here of myself using mine:

Clappers should be made with hardwood such as oak or maple. Mine has a handle, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

What’s your favorite quilting tool?

  1. Thank you for this! I have been wondering if I was using my clapper correctly. I’ve had it for years and just now started using it.
